I have a pen. I have an apple. I have a pineapple.

The 3 `Friend`s : A Short Preface

In the enchanting world of imagination, I invite you to embark on a journey with me.

The stories are about a little cow stuffed toy, a tree, and a magical pen. The threads of these narratives intertwine to weave a tapestry of enchantment that will tickle your imagination and warm your heart.

As I flipped through the books, I was reminded of The Little Prince and his cherished companions; the fox, the delicate rose, and his planet B-612. Just like The Little Prince, a timeless classic, these stories are also about the bonds we form with the most unexpected of “friends” and the worlds we create in our minds.

Picture books, whether they contain 28 or 32 pages, are portals to boundless imagination. With each page we turn, we find ourselves pondering, “What’s next?” It’s a delightful exercise in anticipation, like unwrapping a gift with every flip. From one story to the next, the cycle continues with each page a gateway to new wonders.

In the chambers of our hearts, we all carry these three treasures. One may be a cherished childhood toy or a loyal pet, a reminder of innocence and joy. Another could be a plant, nurtured patiently, mirroring our growth and journey through life. And then, there is the magical pen that has been our steadfast companion on the adventures of life, painting our dreams with vibrant colours.

The cow in the first picture book is a symbol of boundless imagination. It’s the eternal companion of our youth, later transforming into a washable stuffed toy—a tangible relic of the genuine life we once envisioned for ourselves.

Isn’t this what we’ve all yearned for? A symbol of the most authentic life we aspire to lead?

The ‘cow’ also signifies attachment, eventually giving way to the wisdom of growth.

If you look closely, you’ll discern the elements of time, reflecting upon the boundary between reality and the virtual.

Next, we encounter the tree. It stands tall, bears fruit, sheds leaves and becomes one with the forest of its kind. It encapsulates the essence of growth, life’s ebb and flow, ageing, illness, death, and the enigma of what lies beyond. Time and waiting are significant players here. In waiting, we experience transformation, joy, sorrow, and the rich tapestry of human emotions.

And then, there’s the pen. It is the metaphor for imagination, symbolizing liberation from fear and hesitation. It encourages us to follow our instincts and wield the power to create a world where colours and lines harmonise seamlessly.

After you’ve journeyed through these three picture books, I hope that you will find the cow, the tree, and the pen have become lifelong companions, just like that stuffed cow toy from your childhood.

You may be reading this book, or you may be sharing the stories with a young heart. As you journey through the book, may you discover the pen that resides within you — the pen that has conjured the magic of these three captivating picture books.

Welcome to a world where imagination knows no bounds.
